Does the material of the membrane key switch have flame retardant properties?

The material of membrane key switches often has flame-retardant properties,but this depends on the specific material selection and product design requirements.

From the common material composition,the outer film of the membrane key switch is usually made of polyester(PET)or polycarbonate(PC)material.PET material itself has a certain degree of flame retardancy,and its molecular structure is relatively stable,so it will not easily burn when encountering a fire source.Especially PET film that has undergone special treatment can effectively prevent the spread of flames.Polycarbonate(PC)material is also a material with good flame retardant properties.Its oxygen index(LOI)is relatively high,which means that it requires more oxygen to maintain combustion during the combustion process.Therefore,under normal conditions,flames are not easily sustained on PC materials.

In terms of circuit boards and other internal components,materials with flame retardant properties will also be used.For example,circuit boards typically use substrates with flame retardant properties such as FR-4(an epoxy glass fiber board).This substrate contains flame retardants,which can spread flames in the event of unexpected situations such as fires,reducing damage and hidden dangers caused by combustion.Moreover,in the insulation materials used for connecting circuits and other parts,flame-retardant materials such as flame-retardant thermoplastic elastomers are also preferred.They can prevent short circuits and also to some extent prevent the spread of flames.

However,not all membrane key switches have flame-retardant properties.Some low-cost membrane key switches may not use flame-retardant materials or use materials with poor flame-retardant properties in order to reduce costs.So,when choosing a film key switch,if the application scenario requires flame retardancy,such as in electronic devices,electrical control cabinets,and other environments that are prone to fire,special attention should be paid to the flame retardant performance of the product.Check the product manual or consult the manufacturer to see if the material has flame retardant properties and flame retardant levels.
